Pre-menstrual Syndrome (PMS) gets used commonly amongst women to describe what is historically known as, "the worst time of the month". According to Google, PMS is defined as, "A group of symptoms that occur in women, typically between ovulation and a period."

PMS symptoms can include the following:

  • Mood Swings

  • Tender Breasts

  • Food Cravings

  • Fatigue

  • Irritability

  • Depression

  • Cramps

  • and much more!

Growing up, I experienced terrible PMS symptoms but always assumed it was a normal part of womanhood. What if I told you that PMS symptoms are not normal? What if I told you that you can change your lifestyle and habits to improve your PMS?

Here are ways that you can alleviate your PMS symptoms naturally:

1. Exercise

Exercise can help you with a plethora of health concerns, but it can assist with any PMS that you experience. Moving your body for 30-45 minutes daily can help boost your mood and any fatigue.

2. Diet

How you nourish your body will impact your PMS greatly. Remember, your menstrual cycle is your fifth vital sign and will tell you a lot about your health. If you bloat easily like me, limiting salty foods can help. Additionally, reducing alcohol and caffeine intake will also assist with PMS symptoms. Incorporate whole foods, vegetables, fruits, and meats to get a well rounded meal that keeps you nourished and satisfied.

3. Magnesium supplementation

Personally, magnesium has changed my life and PMS symptoms. Did you know that about 75% of people are deficient in magnesium? There are tons of bodily functions that need magnesium, yet our diets are so depleted of magnesium. I like to incorporate foods in my diet that contain higher levels of magnesium such as cashews, but I also supplement it. I love using the magnesium powder from 1st Phorm because it can easily be added into a glass of water and it's like a nice treat before bed.

4. Reduce Stress

Stress has a huge impact on women's bodies and plays a huge impact on your menstrual cycle. It is important to implement daily habits that can help reduce your stress such as taking a bath, meditating, reading, etc. I also love taking natural supplements that will help me relax and de-stress. My favorite are Relaxation from Winged Wellness.

5. Better Sleep

Like stress, your sleep plays a huge role in your health and menstrual cycle. Setting your nighttime routine up for a successful night's rest is a game changer. Be sure to unplug before bed and implement a routine that will help you get a good night's rest.

New habits take time to form, but find what works best for you. By implementing better lifestyle habits, you are setting your health up for success and improving your menstrual cycle. Before you know it, your PMS symptoms will be little to none!
